NorthWind Land Resources is seeking a Junior/Intermediate Field Supervisor to oversee environmental field operations across our active projects. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in hands-on, outdoor work and is prepared to spend up to 90% of their time in the field for periods of up to two weeks. The Field Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of remediation and reclamation programs, while maintaining strict attention to project budgets and contractor performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead full execution of the day-to-day Phase 2 ESA field programs, ensuring scope completeness and quality, including oversight of drilling, soil logging and sampling, and real-time adaptation to site conditions.
• Supervise and coordinate field crews and contractors, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, environmental requirements, and project specifications.
• Maintain accurate, defensible field documentation, including detailed notes, daily reports, and photo records, while coordinating with project managers and office teams to ensure data quality and reporting readiness.
• Maintain responsibility for daily cost tracking, ensuring that contractor equipment, labour, and material charges are accurate and reconciled against project budgets.
• Review and verify contractor daily tickets for completeness and accuracy before submission, proactively addressing discrepancies with crews or subcontractors.
• Provide clear, timely daily updates to Project Managers regarding progress, costs, site conditions, and potential risks.
• Act as site supervisor and Prime Contractor representative, maintaining compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.
• Mentor and support junior staff by providing technical guidance and on-site training.

• Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in contaminated sites assessment
• Strong working knowledge of Alberta regulatory requirements, environmental best practices, and safety standards.
• Proven ability to manage costs in the field, with experience in reviewing contractor tickets and tracking project budgets.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Comfortable working in remote locations and adapting to variable field conditions.
• Familiarity with environmental data systems (e.g., Matidor, SiteView, ESdat) considered an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Student in Environmental, Natural or Soil Sciences Diploma or Degree program (must return to school in the fall)
• Understanding of Phase 1, 2 and 3 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA)
• Working knowledge of Alberta Environment Criteria and Guidelines
• Experience with Wetland Assessment is considered an asset
• Experience in Upstream Oil and Gas remediation and reclamation is an asset
• Experience with weed control considered an asset
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational abilities
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Available to travel throughout Alberta
• Valid Alberta driver’s license

JOB DUTIES:

• Preparation of technical reports including borehole logs, data tables and figures
• Soil and water sampling
• Environmental monitoring of subsurface conditions
• Conducting site investigations and remediation programs such as drilling and excavation projects
• Field work throughout Alberta though there may be some exclusively office based positions available depending on the workload
